The first-person shooter genre is still going strong. Once mainly a domain of PC gaming, in the previous decade it has also become very popular amongst console owners. Let us take a look at some of the more interesting upcoming entries to the genre!
In the fall of 2018, we will get a chance to immerse ourselves into one of the scariest and most fascinating post-apocalyptic settings in any kind of media once again. Metro:Exodus by Deep Silver Studios will be yet another entry into the Metro series based on the cult novels series created by the Russian writer Dmitry Glukhovsky. The previous installments delighted the players with their intense horror-like atmosphere and tension and the incredibly evocative setting. Thus, we can be sure that Metro:Exodus will be yet another wonderfully dark survival shooter best played at night!
Yet another horror FPS based on a popular property that a lot of gamers are anticipating with bated breath is Overkill’s The Walking Dead. This is a game that promises a much more dynamic and visceral experience than the story-heavy, gameplay-light Walking Dead series by Telltale Studios. It will engage the players in co-op missions in which teams of four players (each controlling a character with a different skillset) will take on hordes of zombies. Based on the popularity of the franchise, it has a chance to become of the most popular co-op multiplayer games on the market.
For the players seeking a more realistic, somber experience, Escape from Tarkov could prove the best shooter game of 2018. The designers promise extremely involved survival gameplay that requires the players to take care of such aspects as hydration, blood pressure and exhaustion. Therefore, it will definitely not be a title for the faint-hearted, but the players seeking a challenging experience might find their Nirvana here!
The fans of the Call of Duty series are eagerly awaiting Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. However, it seems that the upcoming release in the popular series is going to be quite shocking for many fans. The designers have decided not to include a single-player campaign, instead opting to create a battle royale mode in vein of the massively popular titles such as Fortnite and Playerunknown’s Battleground. As usual for the series, the game will include the beloved Zombie Mode, this time taking place in 19th century Europe and ancient Rome. Since multiplayer modes have long been the main draw of the series, the designers are probably hoping that most players will not find the lack of a single-player campaign to be a significant drawback.
